Welcome to the Irish Society of Toxicology
The voice of the toxicology community in Ireland

A Message from the President

This year marks the 40th Anniversary since the Irish Society for Toxicology (IST) was established. The society was going from strength to strength until the covid pandemic in 2020. In 2023, the society was re-established after the covid pandemic, a new committee was formed and in 2024 IST activity returned in the form of our first conference for several years. Post Pandemic, 2023 and 2024 were very positive years for the IST.
Our conference focused on forensic toxicology with toxicologists from Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) and the State Lab (SL) presenting on their interesting, innovative and sometimes shocking work. In 2025, it is our intention to broaden our scope and push out from regulatory and forensic toxicology to capture toxicology in industry.

Toxicology and toxicologists are key to environmental and human health safety assessments in many industries. Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food additives, biocides and pesticides all require toxicological evaluation at stages in their development. We hope to explore these areas of toxicology at our next conference. We also hope to see a return of the IST bursaries and the poster competition in 2026.

We hope to see further enhancement of the IST into 2025 and a good year for Irish toxicology as the IST celebrates its 40th year.
Our Vision
Our organisation aims to increase knowledge and awareness of toxicological issues facing society.
Our Mission
To provide a forum for toxicology in Ireland, to support and encourage entry into toxicology as a career choice and to be part of the discussion on the important advancements in modern toxicology.
